iPhone stalled for Canada?

So when is the iPhone coming to Canada? According to customer service reps at Rogers, not anytime soon.  Apparently Comwave,  the Canadian owner of the iPhone trademark isn't impressed by Apple's offers, and Apple's response has been "Canada isn't a significant market anyway".  Or so we've been led to believe.

The data pricing war may still heat up further, however.  The same rep who spilled the beans on Apple's negotiating stance also hinted that we might see a $10 unlimited data plan in the near future.

Hmmm…. anyone from Apple, Comwave or Rogers want to comment officially?

Squawk Box March 17: A tribute to Russell Shaw

Thank Andy Abramson for this idea.  Like many people, I've written about Russell Shaw's passing. Andy just called me and  suggested we turn Monday's Squawk Box into a tribute for our friend.  We hope that Russell's friends, co-workers, family, and anyone else who knew him or would like to contribute, will join in.  I'll keep the microphone open for as long as people want to talk.

Goodbye Russell Shaw

A colleague and friend, Russell Shaw, has passed.  Russell was one of the most prolific bloggers I've ever met. I only knew him as a technology blogger, covering VoIP and Blackberry, and was surprised to learn today that he also wrote political commentary for the Huffington Post.

What I'll remember the most about Russell was his interview style.  Always an engaged, inquiring and far reaching affair, he had a penchant for the Columbo line of inquiry — "Ah, one more thing I was thinking about" — that frequently led to information that no other interviewers unearthed.  His writing was precise and insightful; his commentary lucid.  He captured the essence of the story in a way that other writers admired but were often unable to duplicate.

I was hoping to meet Russell this week at the VON show in San Jose.  Sadly, that can't happen now, and I feel poorer for it.  My sincerest condolences to Russell, his family, and friends.

Russell, you'll be missed by many.
