Facebook, Google and Plaxo to join DataPortability.org

Talk about being out there just ahead of the news!

Within hours of the Privacy Manifesto for a Web 2.0 Era being published on GigaOM, Facebook, Google and Plaxo announced that they had joined DataPortability.org. Facebook's Ben Ling, Google's Brad FitzPatrick, and Plaxo's Joseph Smarr will all be joining the group.

And hey, Chris Saad invited me to help draft some of their documents too.  I guess I was too late for the press release ;)

In all seriousness, though, this is a great step forward.  The privacy issues surrounding data mobility are now much more likely than ever to get addressed, which benefits us all.
