And the winner is…

Tuesday I stopped in Mississauga on my up to Waterloo to have lunch with the winner of the iotum win an 8G iPod Touch giveaway on Facebook and Randall Howard.  The winner is Canadian blogger Julie Kivell. Two weeks ago she invited her boss to a conference call using FREE Conference Calls on Facebook in order to make sure that she was entered in the draw.  Needless to say, I was surprised and also pleased to see who won.

Saturday I emailed Julie, one blogger to another, and told her I was looking for some help in getting the word out that we had a winner… and then casually let it drop that she was the winner. The reaction was a priceless "Holy Cats!!!!".

After lunch, we shot a couple of photos, first of Randall and Julie, and then myself and Julie.

Yes, contests are real, and yes we had a winner!

The promotion itself was enormously successful.  During the short period of time we ran it we more than doubled our installations.  So, we're doing it again!  Between now and midnight (GMT-5) of December 31, 2007 and calls made using the iotum FREE Conference Call application on Facebook will be eligible to win an 8G iPod Touch

Enjoy the iPod Touch, Julie!  And all you other wannabe iPod Winners… sign up for FREE Conference Call, sign up your friends and family too, and get calling.  It's the holiday season… what better time to talk?

JAJAH on iPhone / iPod Touch

The JAJAH team are back at it again today, with a new version of their application for iPhone and iPod Touch.  They'll be announcing it at noon today.  Too bad we can't get the darn things here in Canada, otherwise I'd tell you how well the app works!

The JAJAH iPhone app comes with the look and feel of the iPhone's dial pad and address book enabling users to make low-cost global calling directly from their Apple iPhone and iPod Touch. You simply point your mobile Safari browser to http://iphone.jajah.com and type in the number you want to call.

Alternatively you can select the name in your JAJAH contacts and click on the number you want to call. JAJAH will call your phone, you pick up, and you will be connected to the desired international number. You can call any phone anywhere in the world (landline or mobile) without the need of an international calling plan - the registration is free, and there is no contract and no monthly fee.

Neat trick, that is… using the iPod Touch WiFi connection to fire up the JAJAH dial-back on your regular phone.

Call Me with Truphone on Facebook

Truphone have officially announced their Call Me Facebook application, which I briefly mentioned last week.  The big feature is the embeddable Call Me button.  It can be dropped into any place on Facebook that can take an attachment — you can:

  • Embed your 'Call Me' button within Facebook messages;
  • Post your 'Call Me' button onto a friends wall;
  • Drop your 'Call Me' button onto Facebook groups and discussion boards.

Call Me is an embedded softphone.  That means callers simply click the button, which dials the button's owner, and creates a call between the callers PC and the owners phone.  The owners phone can be virtually any device ranging from a telephone to a cellular phone or an IM client like GoogleTalk.

Cool!
