Another way to tap the line is with an ATA. See the thread here: http://blog.tmcnet.com/blog/rich-tehrani/ip-communications/ooma-dialog.html

I wrote some additional comments about the Ooma session here: http://www.shaiberger.com/?p=43

BTW, Dennis's last name is Peng.

[...] Dennis Peng, co-founder of Ooma, took the stage for what turned out to be quite a grueling session. This was a tough crowd. (Other coverage from Thomas and Alec.) [...]

Really interesting that Ooma keeps claiming that they have some magic to detect tapping and monitoring of the line. The rest of us know that is impossible. How do they think a DSL modem or a Callling Line ID box works, (or an FBI wiretap) any of which can be attached to the phone line behind the Ooma Hub? They monitor the line with a high impedance bridge which has no DC "signature" and I'm certain that the Ooma box can't detect them. Anyone in the DC/Baltimore area that would like to set up a test? I'll make the tapping circuit which we'll connect to your phone line coming out of the back of your Ooma Hub.
