I'm thinking interferance on established channels. Then there is the E911 question. I think not only the carriers heads will spin, but the FCC as well.

Isn't the optimism a tad misplaced? After all this is a mesh networking technology targeted for areas where base stations are sparsely deployed. I am not sure mesh technology can scale to support such a large number of nodes that will entail to displace carriers.

I'm very excited about this technology, precisely BECAUSE it cuts out the carriers completely. There's entirely too much concern about the impact on companies and businesses. No one immediately thinks about what would be good for consumers. I would like to see Verizon, AT&T and others fade away. A network like TerraNet would link entire countries, particularly in densely populated areas like New York City where many hundreds of thousands of "nodes" could exist.

Of course, those first few years where not many people own them would be rough. We'd have to wean off the carriers until a critical mass was reached. But if Motorola, Samsung, and others knew what was good for them, they would JUMP on this technology. I'll be watching this very closely to see how it develops.
