The people at Etel
One of the more amazing things about Etel were the people there. I had grand plans to attend a series of different talks, but instead spent most of the show meeting with people over coffee, in and around the show. Surj and his team did a terrific job of bringing together a who’s who of the “emerging telecommunications” industry.
Here’s a few of the photographs I shot. You can find more from me and others organized under the flickr tag etel.
Kevin Gavin and Ken Camp sharing a laugh at the LaunchPad reception.
Stuart Henshall and James Bodie, talking Truphone.
Jim van Meggelen, caught in conversation.
Bruce Stewart and Moshe Yudkowsky.
Joey Wan and Surj Patel
Andy Abramson, Bruce Stewart, Phil Wolff, Craig Walker, and Shel Israel at the bloggers dinner organized by Andy.
James Bodie, and Ken Camp discussing Truphone.

I definitely agree with Alec. In my 25 years of going to technical conferences and exhibitions, this was definitely the best. Etel brought together an unusually exciting group of thought provoking people. Unfortunately I had to miss the bloggers dinner due to an early departure, but I am sure it was just as interesting!

I wish I could have gone. On another note, is it just me or is there not a single large vendor on the VON Spring tradeshow floor? Where are Cisco and AlcaLu and Tellabs and Ericcson? Did I miss something?

This was my first ETel, and I found the quality of the talks — and the people to attended them — to be absolutely outstanding.
