BYOB: Bring Your Own Broadband

For the last four days I’ve been using a Verizon wireless card, and a Cingular wireless card with my PC.  Both of these are available for $99 with a 2 year contract,  and with unlimited data for $79/month.  We bought them because it’s been a huge hassle for iotum to do a demo in most corporate settings.  Most corporations don’t have an open network for you to plug into.

They rock!  With Verizon I am getting well over 1 megabit speeds.  Cingular claims as high as 1.8 megabit.  No matter how you cut it, that’s broadband or more.

So, why two?  Well, I am sitting in a hotel room right now where Cingular has no data coverage.  Verizon’s coverage is excellent.  However, for the past three days the majority of my demos have been given in an environment where Verizon has no coverage, and Cingular does.  Until we get to a nationwide 3G deployment, from at least one carrier, it will be like this.
