Rideau Canal Opens
Today was the official opening of the Rideau Canal skateway for 2006. Janice and I headed down there for a couple of hours of fun, skating the worlds longest rink. The ice was a little rough, but all in all, it was a great time.
If you’re planning to visit Ottawa, don’t miss this. And if you live here, head on down to the canal for hot cider and beaver tails.

I must say I miss it. I used to get to the canal at least once a year during the winter, particularly after the sculptures were completed during Winterlude on Dows Lake.

Very disappointed with the ice conditions. I thought it would have been much better. Sunday was much worse than Saturday.
Alec - any thoughts on the election - any changes in your views from few weeks ago?

Still wrestling Don. I had a nice lady from my local Conservative candidate’s campaign give me a call last night to ask for my support. I told her about my discomfort with the party’s stance on same sex marriage, to which she replied “well, there will be a free vote in parliament”, and I responded “and I know how my representative voted the last time”.
It doesn’t particularly matter, because I think he’ll win anyway with or without my vote. The conservatives are on a roll, and Pierre, by and large, is well liked in our riding.
