Interesting that Reid claims to be playing hockey! The last I heard he was on his death bed. What a miraculous recovery.

Well. Thanks to this blog and a curious mind I have been saved from this con man extraordiaire. I was searching for a cmiisioned sales re p in the KW area. I recieved his resume and did the pre screening by phone. Reid made it through. I met with him at the Holiday Inn in Cambridge. Your pic here is the man…somewhat older but that is the guy. His stories line up exactly to the posts. He even claims to play hockey with Mr Rim, Jim Balsilie. Name dropping and some strategic questions and note taking ensued. As I am not one to pull the trigger immediately I wanted to think things over and see what I could find out about him on the web. I owe many thanks to the posters here. I have not offered JR a job…and of course will not. Thank you Stealth, Paul Weber, Firepond and ALL of you.

I can promise you the statute of limitations is not an issue. Once a criminal filing is made the statute of limitations is no longer in play. Actually, there is talk in Boston about a Trial in Abstentia, in which if Mr. Reid fails to appear in court, the proceedings go on without him. If convicted, he would absolutely be sent to a US Federal prison which is capable of taking care of the infirmed. Canada and the US have a very strong and special understanding of this procedure. Mr. Reid may not be getting the best legal advice and may even be unaware of what is about to transpire. Comeuppence indeed.

I couldn’t agree more Alex. There are also several outstanding court and/or Ministry claims against Jim that remain unpaid.

Health Query

This forum is good, though I have a troubling question.
If Jim is in sufficient health to drive a new vehicle and to service retail accounts, then why is he in insufficient health to prevent being extradited to the US in order to face the legal system?

I hope there is not some short duration statute of limitations time limit on the charges against him. He’s already deliberately hurt too many people, and he deserves his karmic comeuppence.

Just a word of caution to all small bussiness owners in the Waterloo Region. Jim is still in our area, so no one is safe. Friends of mine saw him in Kitchener a couple of days ago driving a fairly new gold Jaguar. Jim always told me, Why be poor and look poor too…. Beware he’s always on the lookout for unsuspecting innocent people who are working hard to survive and just waiting for a lucky break. Take my word for it, Jim Reid is not the answer to your financial problems, rather just the start for many ,many more. Sincerely, Paul Weber

Mel, I hope you ran away from Jim Reid as fast as you could possibly go after reading this.

I also hope that you have some kind of protection against that leasing company. There is no way that Jim is going to straighten anything out for anyone but himself. He continues to work out scams that end up costing other people lots of time and heartache.

The whole scheme where a new terminal came every month HAS to be a scam. Jim’s making money with every new terminal and somewhere down the line someone is getting screwed – I just hope for your sake that it’s not you.

There was a story yesterday in Kitchener about a terminal in one of the local malls that had a skimmer device with a bluetooth transmitter right inside the unit. All the thief had to do was sit in the parking lot and receive the data from the unit. When I saw that I immediately thought of the posts here about Jim and debit card terminals. I wonder how many of the terminals that he has so “generously” arranged to be replaced every month actually had some kind of internal skimmer??? He has someone pick them up and VOILA – instant account access!

Is there any corporate logo etc on the units that Jim supplied? I’d like to know so I can avoid them like the H1N1!

Hi,
I have a bridal boutique and Jim gets me a new terminal every month. I just sign a new lease and a few other papers and someone arrives and installs the new one and takes the old one. You cant tell a difference they look the same. Jim is nice, he has recommended clients to me and lets me pay him directly in cash for the terminal and the processing. The only problem is the leasing company who keeps calling to say I owe them thousands of dollars, but Jim is getting this straightened out for me as he is in charge of collective pos and co-owner of the parent company. I was told he is a con and to look on here. This is all quite shocking. I think I am going to stop using him.

Alex, I’m afraid I’d have to agree with you response to Wilma, with regards to the replaced units. As soon as I read Wilma’s posting I remembered a conversation with Jim a year ago May. He was already in the midst of trying to screw me with his bogus Caribean cruise and talent contest, but at this time I still trusted him and talked quite freely with him. I was in the process of switching banks and had just found out that my new bank would not allow me to use a terminal which I now owned after a lease to purchase contract with my former bank. I wondered if he thought I would have any luck selling it or if it would be of any uise to any other bussiness. He quickly told me that I’d have to be very careful what I did with the terminal since some very valuable and serious information could be retrieved off of it, by someone who knew how to do it. He said it could be erased or de-programmed and that he could take it and have it done for me. I got busy with other things and still have the unit in my office, and it wasn’t until now that I thought about that conversation again. Things do become much clearer when you realize later what kind of snake, we’ve all dealt with in Jim Reid. Keep your eyes and ears open everyone, this man cannot be trusted. How can you tell if Jim Reid is lying to you? His lips are moving. Sincerely, Paul Weber

I congratulate you on seeing the light and protecting yourself. Sadly, I can’t help but wonder whether Jim replaced these units because they were [a] defective, or [b] compromised to possibly include some information gathering mechanism. Hopefully you and your customers will not discover that it’s the second outcome. Meanwhile thanks to everyone that keeps posting here.
