Rogers Blocking Podcasts

While at Torcamp I have heard from several sources that Rogers and Shaw are blocking podcast downloads.  After two to three downloads, the data stops.  This, of course, is the same issue that the VoIP industry is facing. Carriers who have voice and data, are seeking to stop voice applications from using their low cost data pipes.  Now, Rogers and Shaw, who care video and data, are seeking to stop other forms of data.

    Rogers / Shaw blocking podcasts

If an Internet Access Provider decides to filter content then maybe they should lose the common carrier liability protections they now enjoy.

I’m a voracious podcastee, and I haven’t had any trouble with Rogers on this, though I’ve heard the same rumours.

I queue up about 20, many of which are updated every day. So far, no worries.

Well that’s cool. I’d hate to see them block a whole lot of traffic.

i called rogers who told me they are not blocking podcasts. they do give priority, however, to e-mail and web site traffic…whatever that means.
