Malivoire 2001 Pinot Noir

Along with the other wines I picked up from Malivoire this year was a half dozen splits of their 2001 Estate Bottled Pinot Noir.  This is a light tasting red, although it clocks in at 13.2% alcohol.  It’s not hot on the tongue, not tannic, unfined and not oaky.  So far, so good.

Unfortunately, I can’t recommend this wine.  It’s got an overpowering cracked pepper nose, and vegetal green pepper flavour about it.  A vegetal taste is a common flaw from grapes that have been picked too young, but this is the first time I’ve encountered a wine with this flaw so large and so apparent.
