N. Korea: ‘Burning hatred’ for U.S.  I found this story a very disturbing story.  This week the whole world seems to have gone off the rails.   The North Koreans have announced they’re restarting their nuclear programs.  The US is actively poking Iran in the eye with a stick.  And, of course, the Americans also asserting that the Iraqi declaration is incomplete.

It seems that this isn’t so much about the US going to war anymore, as much as who they’re going to war against.  Perhaps Slate needs to update the Saddameter.

One has to wonder about the strategy of taking on three opponents in three diverse geographies. Common wisdom, in both warfare and business, is to concentrate maximum force on the point that your enemy is weakest.  Opening up three potential theaters of engagement seems counter to that. Are the generals in Washington actually in charge, or is this Rumsfeld’s war?

Why Would Microsoft Sleep with the Enemy?. Just the thought of Microsoft adapting Web server technology developed by Linus “We Will Bury You” Torvalds is a bit hard to swallow. I mean, that would be akin to the Soviet Union breaking up and Russia allying itself with the U.S.! But that’s what the folks at Meta Group are telling us.

OsOpinion has it right.  The folks at Meta Group were clearly not around during the OS/2 wars days, when the rumour on the street was the Microsoft would write Office apps for OS/2.  Of course, the vendors of an alternate OS platform would love that to happen.  But as Meta points out themselves “Microsoft is an economic animal”.  It makes no sense, economically, to undermine their platform business.  None.
