Musings

It’s been a few days since I last wrote anything.  Turns out that keeping a blog is a lot of work.  Go figure.  I have had friends staying with me last weekend, followed by a backpacking trip to Frontenac Park with my younger kids, and then my 16th anniversary to keep me occupied.

Last week I got involved in an interesting discussion with an investor in a local Ottawa company who asked whether I thought .NET would succeed.  I think the answer to that is an unqualified yes, and in Parsing .NET I’ve written down my thoughts on why.

Global Warming: It’s Real

Boost Canada’s efforts for a greener Earth. Hear, hear!  I’ve been camping all week long in the hottest and most humid August I can remember.  I love hiking, but when you’re dripping the whole way it’s a lot less enjoyable.

Weird things are happening with the environment.  Speaking with family on the west coast, I told them that the mosquitos haven’t left yet, and there was general disbelief.  We all know that by mid-August the mosquitos are mostly gone.  I was at White Rose yesterday and got out of my air-conditioned car, and my glasses fogged over in the humidity!  And on the way home, there were migrating geese in a farmers field eating the corn left behind.  What do the geese know that we don’t?

Hurry up and sign Kyoto!  If this weather is the price we have to pay for green house gas emissions, then the we’re going to have to find some other way for the folks in Alberta to earn a living.

Chretien: Hungry for Power

Canadians believe PM just hungry for power.

In addition, only 35 per cent believe Mr. Chrétien "has a vision for taking the nation forward." Hmm… did he ever have a vision?  Seems to me that Chretien was largely elected on the promise of undoing Brian Mulroney’s work, and since that time the right has been too busy splitting the vote to mount an effective election campaign.

Canada stalls on Gay Marriage

Canada stalls on gay marriage question.  Isn’t this just an inevitable conclusion?  From what I read, the Charter of Rights and Freedoms has pretty much pre-ordained this.  So get over it!

And get over this too! Let Charles be king and marry Camilla - poll
